Everyone (re)introduce yourselves

Great thread! My name is Scott Lorenzini and I have been playing drums for about 15 years. I am an investment banker by day and drummer by night. I am basically self-taught, but have studied with some great teachers, including our own Steve Holmes. I am currently playing with about 5 singer song-writer here in Los Angeles recording and touring the US, when time allows.

I have been a member of HOD for some time now, and is a place that I visit religiously. Simply put, great topics great people! I hope to meet some of you guys in the near future and thank to all of you for sharing your knowledge!

I'm Andy Vermiglio. Just want to thank God for the over 40 years of playing and studying these things. I've studied with a bunch of great teachers including Dave Weckl and Jeff Hamilton. I?ve played in US Navy and Army Reserve bands. I also taught drum set at the US Armed Forces School of Music. I?ve performed/recorded with Nicolette Larson, Paulinho Da Costa, Danny Thoms, Billy Barty, the Stocking Heads, John Goodsall, and many others. After 20 years in full-time music I decided to take on a day job. For my day gig, I?m an audiologist working as a researcher in hearing science. I still perform, teach and take lessons.

Thanks out to Steve Holmes for creating this site and to everyone who has been a part of it. I?ve learned a lot from you guys!

Hi! My name is Peter Corona.

I am 46 years old, having been playing
since I was 14. I got my first paying
gig at 16 and have been playing ever
since, though I pretty much stopped
doing any gigging after 1984, when I
became involved in the wild financial
markets. I have the fortune of meeting
and studying with some great players,
including Tony Williams but that does
not make me anything more than I am,
a simple drummer that always wants to
learn from others.

And I am the father of two children
(a 7 year-old boy and 16 month-old
girl) and of this, I am most proud.

Always cheering for Steve and HOD!

Thats was "played" as in past tense 2 or so years ago. I actually just got an e-mail from Mick. Guess he just had a new baby. The guitarist I played with Mick was John Clarke. An amazing guitarist.

Like everyone has said here, hip hip hoorah for Steve Holmes and the moderators (T-Bo and Randy). For without HOD, I wouldn't have connected and re-connected with some great people.

This is great - people are actually replying! I had visions of this thread being empty three days later...

Joes Mech you play with BrandX? Thats amazing! There's a lot of quality drummers on here, as has been remarked many times before. The thing I like is that the quality of posting is more or less consistenly high all the time from everyone - regardless of age, ability, profesional status (drum-wise) etc.

By the way, my name is Ned (I wasn't christened Muskateer), I'm 25, live in York in the UK and play live drum'n'bass (and some hip-hop) with Scassa Monakee (www.smsq.co.uk) although when I practice I just play along to Vinnie + 70s Genesis records! I've decided not to pursue drumming as a career because I've recently married (and because no one wants to employ someone who starts every song 10bpm too fast).

Hey Y'all...My name is Clark and I'd like to start by saying how great this board is (props to Steve!)..all the others I have visited disolve into trite, juvenile BS with little or no real discussion of anything drum related. OK...I am 39 and am a drummer of 22 years. Started on violin at age 7, then sax all through school until I found the drums , halleluja! In 1995 I started a drum shop here in Colorado and have owned/operated it ever since. It is my greatest accomplishment, next to my son, and I'm quite proud of it. I play locally , mainly jazz. I play in a guitar trio, and with other local jazz artists. I sub in other styles as well. My heros are , aside from the giants of yesteryear...Vinnie, D Chambers, DeJohnette, Virgil, Kirk Covington...I'm basically a Fusion nut. Thanks again for all the great discussion here, I also like how dialed in with the scene you guys are...I get my late-breaking drum news here everyday!

Guess it's my turn...
I played all the elementary school instruments available?Cornet, French Horn (called the portable toilet by the other kids?that was fun) and accordion before I was able to take drum lessons at 16 from Larry Londin?s music studio in Glendale, CA. I found a guitar player in school and immediate jammed to tunes like Skynard?s Free Bird. About this time TOTO?s first LP came out and I heard, Hold The Line. Jeff?s hi-hat sound hit me deep and I knew I wanted whatever he had?I wanted to do THAT!

At 20, I toured the world and US in a Christian group, The Continental singers, visiting Zagreb to Zurich as well as half the US states. I wasn?t ready for this type of gig and learned as I went, getting in battles with the director the entire tour. Life on a bus was fascinating! In college I played with a band and recorded a few LP?s, worked on the last few years of the TV show Little House on the Prairie and got ?inside? the studios. The keyboard player in my band got a great gig with Disney and met David Paich from TOTO. They became good friends and that got me in the ?TOTO? door. Along the way I got a BA in psychology, MA in theology, and a multiple subject teaching credential. I?ve taught elementary school since ?92 and wrote a book for parents on education. I just left the world if education and am transitioning into another vocation?.which is why I got time to think of threads like The Hoddie Awards?LOL

I?ve enjoyed meeting the LA HOD-Heads at local gigs and ditto the drum community as unique. I love going to a show locally and feeling connected to this forum. I really think of members in here when I see local heros Live?living in LA has it?s perks and I try not to take it for granted.

I?ve played Ludwig drums, Pearl, Slingerland, and currently, DW. My first kit was a Japanese set?can?t remember the name. I wasn?t into fusion music until this site caught my attention back in 2000.

Wow!! I always knew I was in the company of some cool folks but this is neat.

My name is Clint. I'm 36. Started on Saxophone at about twelve all the while jonesing to play the drums. I wrinkled my parent's carpet up in front of the stereo to Zeppelin, Hendrix, Rush, Genesis, 80's King Crimson, Billy Cobham and anything on the radio at the time. Started buying Modern Drummer and discovered Vinnie and countless other mind expanding influences. Joined the Navy at 18 saw the world and bought a beat up Slingerland kit from a cook in the Nav who hipped me to Bozzio. I'm currently working in County Government seeking employment with an unspecified Federal law enforcement agency.

Joe's Mech, when you say 'John Clarke' do you mean the 'unknown' John Clarke of 'Bruford' fame? If so, too cool.

Hi, my name is Rafael Dolinski, 23 years old, I am from S?o Paulo, Brazil.
I started playing drums in 1998, my dad was a great drummer and he teached me a lot. He played with a lot of great brazilian musicians (Gal Costa, Jo?o Gilberto, Pepeu Gomes, Novos Baianos, etc...). He played at Rock in Rio I and II, 5 times at Montreux Jazz festival, etc.

I love to play drums, I love to listen and watch Vinnie Colaiuta, Gregg Bissonette, Dennis Chambers, Tony Williams, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker, Chick Corea, Queen, Cozy Powell, Simon Phillips, Casiopea, Buddy Rich, Jeff Porcaro, Virgil Donati, Jimi Hendrix, Phil Collins, Billy Cobham, The Who...

And I love to play soccer too, like almost every brazilian =)
